On 2nd May, the Olympic Torch was passed on from Vietnam. Last Friday, more than a hundred thousand people welcomed the Torch relay in Tsim Sha Tsui, Central and Wan Chai respectively.
I was one of the people who looked forward to seeing the torchbearers. On that day, we decided to view this spectacular activity in Wan Chai. On the way, I could see many people wearing a red T-shirt with the word “I love China”.
The street was like a red carpet because of people wearing red T-shirts. Many people stood along the street to wait for the torchbearers. Some raised the national flag or their supporting slogans. In Wan Chai, we could feel a sense of belonging.? After about an hour, some festooned vehicles, tourist coaches and police patrol cars arrived. We could see a lot of celebrities such as Andy Lau and Eason Chan.
When the previous torchbearer, Eason arrived, all of the people cheered and clapped to welcome the next torchbearer. After Eason gave the torch to the next person, we all followed the torchbearers. However, in order to control the crowd and the traffic, the police didn’t allow people to participate in the closing ceremony. Then, we left and finished the Olympic Torch trip.

2nd May, 2008 was a meaningful day for people in Hong Kong as it was the day that the Olympic torch returned to China. I was extremely excited and completely felt the hot atmosphere. ?Before the event started, the street had been flooded with most people wearing red T-shirts showing their support to the Olympic Games in Beijing. The moment that impressed me deeply was nothing but those demonstrators across the street calling for the protection of human rights when people around me yelled, sung the national anthem and waved the national flags together in order to show not only their support to our country, but also their peaceful objection to the politicization of the Olympic Games. To be honest, this was the first time in my life to experience such a great event and I was really proud to be a Chinese.

That was an amazing day! When I arrived at Wan Chai, there were many people standing along Hennessy Road. Most of the people wore red T-shirts. Some wrote the word ‘China’ and drew a picture on their face, or brought a nation flag to support the Olympic Torch Bearers. We finally found the best position. Then, we had waited for about one hour.? I felt very excited and hot.? When the Olympic Torch Bearer arrived, everyone was cheering and clapping their hands. Then, I saw Eason Chan transporting the torch to another bearer.? At that moment, I gambolled on the street. The torch flame was very beautiful and resplendent. I think this event is meaningful. I feel the vehemence of patriotism of Hong Kong people. If there are the same kinds of events, I will definitely participate in them.
