Runner-up and Merit Award in The 28th Hong Kong Youth Science & Technology Innovation Competition

2026-03-31

Students from our school participated in the 28th Hong Kong Youth Science & Technology Innovation Competition, organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association under the commission of the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government. As the largest and most representative STEAM competition in Hong Kong, this year’s event attracted 289 schools, with over 4,800 students, and entries of exceptionally high quality.

Guided by their teachers, our two teams actively applied artificial intelligence tools to assist with literature review, data analysis, and solution optimization, thereby enhancing both efficiency and depth in their research. Over the course of a year, the teams devoted themselves to project development—from topic selection and experimental design to repeated testing and final product creation—demonstrating remarkable perseverance and a spirit of inquiry.

Ultimately, the teams competed with their projects “Puraqua — A Portable Biosensor for Water Safety” and “The Aether Veil System — A Closed-Loop, Solar-Powered Green Roof for Autonomous Microclimate Control”. Amongst more than 4,000 entries, both projects advanced to the Top Ten in the Senior Secondary Division (Energy and Environmental Science category) and attended the final defense session at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on March 21.

After expert evaluation, the Puraqua team won the Second Prize (Runner-up) and was awarded HK$3,000, while the Solar Green Roof team also achieved excellent results, earning a Merit Award. These outstanding achievements highlight the effectiveness of our school’s efforts to integrate AI into STEAM education and are truly commendable.
